 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Opposite leaves are 4" long (considered to be the largest in the genus Philadelphus). The are usually serrated sparsely but will occasionally be entire. Flowers are 1 3/4-2" in diameter, cup-shaped, and occur in late spring to early summer. 1/2" long dry fruit capsules are persistent.

Additional Information

This shrub only has interent when it is flowering; even then, this specific speciman is not as great as it is not fragrant, unlike its relative, P. coronarius.
